JKL Off Road: From Backyard Shed to Fully Equipped Shop

When your passion outgrows your space, you need the right home for your work.

Jason Miller, along with his wife Kristen and their son Logan, turned their love for off-road machines into a family business — JKL Off Road. But working out of a 10-by-12 backyard shed made it nearly impossible to keep up with repairs and storage.

Finding a commercial space that allowed mechanical work in the Salt Lake Valley proved challenging. Strict zoning rules, limited availability, and high costs made it hard to secure the right fit.

“Without them, we don’t know where we would be.” — Jason Miller, JKL Off Road

The Search for the Right Space

Jason’s checklist was simple but hard to meet:

  • Space in the front for customer interaction.
  • An operational work area inside.
  • Storage in the back for machines awaiting repair.

After searching online for terms like “repair shop” and “mechanic shop,” Jason found WorkBay — one of the few places in the Valley offering zoned space for mechanical work without the headaches of traditional leasing.

Why WorkBay Made the Difference

WorkBay didn’t just provide square footage. They helped guide JKL Off Road through the inspection process and business licensing, ensuring the shop could open without costly delays.

“The number one thing WorkBay provided us is a place to work… and that’s been the most beneficial by far.”

Room to Grow

Today, JKL Off Road operates in a professional space that meets every requirement, giving the Millers room to take on more projects and grow their customer base. And instead of worrying about finding a shop, they can focus on what they love: building and repairing off-road machines.
